ABOUT THE SOUTH COAST
KwaZulu-Natal’s holiday paradise of the South Coast is known for
its many glorious beaches, rocky coves, pristine lagoons, fascinat-
ing attractions and wide range of accommodation – from caravan
parks to first-class hotels. Starting from Warner Beach, which lies
just south of Amanzimtoti and the cosmopolitan hub of Durban,
a golden coastline lush with subtropical vegetation stretches all
the way to Port Edward, where the Mtamvuna River forms the
border with the Eastern Cape Province. Benefiting from marvellous
weather throughout the year, the South Coast is also the site of
major events like the Ugu Jazz Festival, Africa Bike Week and the
South African Women’s Open Golf Championship.
The region’s beaches and marine life are top attractions. There
are seven Blue Flag beaches on the South Coast in the 2014/15
season, comprising Lucien, Marina Beach, Pennington (a new
addition to the programme), Ramsgate, Southport, Trafalgar and
Umzumbe (Pumula), with Mpenjati, Park Rynie and Scottburgh Main
beaches receiving pilot Blue Flag status. Beaches are awarded this
prestigious international accolade in recognition of their outstand-
about the south coast
